Description:
You know that feeling when you walk into your best friend’s
house and it feels like your own home? That’s how I feel at Brite Eyes Brewing
Company. It’s such a chill, welcoming place with large windows, board games,
outdoor seating, and just an overall warm inviting place.
Brite Eyes is a small place in Kalamazoo’s Southtown neighborhood.
Not a whole lot of parking as a heads up. They call themselves “Kalamazoo’s
smallest brewery” because their beers are brewed in house 1 barrel at a time
which is pretty awesome. Also on their website it states, “Brite Eyes mission
statement is to strive to offer something for everyone in your group, even the
non beer drinkers. That's why we offer a full espresso bar, hard cider, and
house wine.” I can attest to that. Their hard cider is delicious and me not
being a huge beer fan, I wasn’t afraid to ask what they would recommend.
Onto the food. To my vegetarian friends I’ve had both the “Vegetable
Buddy” (wheat bread with cheddar & provolone cheese, green pepper, red
onion, banana peppers, tomato, lettuce and dill dip) as well as a build your
own burger using the Impossible burger as my patty. Personally I liked the
veggie sandwich but would’ve preferred if the vegetables were grilled and not
raw. I’m not a huge fan of uncooked peppers, but still good. The Impossible
burger was awesome as always. Not super big and really makes you question if
you’re eating actual meat (which I think is a good thing honestly). They also have your basic pub favorites, a variety
of sandwiches, burgers, etc. I’d explain it as the perfect lunchtime hangout
menu.
One thing I do have to say is that the 2 times I have been
there it has taken a while to get my food, but they were also relatively busy
and it seems like sometimes they only have 1 cook back there running the show. I didn’t
mind because I wasn’t in a rush and with board games and good drinks there was
no reason to be bored.
Overall there’s much more to this place than meets the “eye”
(Get it? Brite Eyes? Haha! Anyway…). I see that they also serve breakfast from 8-11am
on the weekdays and 8am-1pm on the weekends so that will be worth checking out
one day. I could also see myself being part of the mug club here because it’s
just such a friendly homey place I wouldn’t mind sitting down with another one
of those ciders. Brite Eyes is certainly a quaint place worth checking out!
