PAW PAW, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A 17-year-old from Hartford is dead and a suspect is in custody after an incident Friday in Van Buren County.
Deputies say that they responded to a report of an assault in Hartford Township and found that a fight had taken place at the intersection of Red Arrow Highway and Springdale Road.
Two people had fled the fight in a pickup and after leaving the scene they were involved in a crash.
The truck had smashed into a light pole and the 17-year-old, who had been holding onto the driver’s side window, was pinned between the pole and the truck, resulting in his death.
The driver was treated for his injuries, and faces charges of operating while intoxicated causing death and reckless driving causing death.
