EAST LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – For the first time in 80 years, Michigan State University football players are not going to the NFL.
The Spartans had the third-longest streak in the nation of having at least one player taken in the draft since the modern draft began in 1967, behind Stanford and Michigan, but that all came to an end.
Many thought junior cornerback Shakur Brown seemed likely to go as early as the third round or senior defensive tackle Naquan Jones would likely go late in the draft, but neither heard their name called. After the draft ended, Brown signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers and Jones signed with the Tennessee Titans as undrafted free agents.
