KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A Kalamazoo man is on his way to prison. U.S. Attorney Mark Totten announced on Tuesday, November 29 that 30-year-old Deshay Malory will be sentenced to 10 years in a federal prison on weapons and drugs charges.
Police responded to a shooting in Kalamazoo earlier this year in April where they say they found Malory in possession of a loaded and stolen firearm as a convicted felon.
According to police, Malory had shot at a car with two adults and two children inside. He was arrested a week later in a convenience store with a loaded and stolen handgun, along with two bags of cocaine.
After a search of his car, police say they found more bags of cocaine.
“Through strong relationships with our federal partners, the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety stands firm in pursuing violent offenders through targeted enforcement actions,” said Chief Dave Boysen of the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety. “Today’s sentencing will send a message that gun violence will not be tolerated in Kalamazoo.”
At the time of arrest, he was also on parole for an earlier drug conviction.
“Malory’s actions put innocent lives in danger,” Totten said. “While no one was injured, all shootings cause harm.”
