KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Officers with the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety will soon be on the lookout for kids, commendable kids that is.
According to a KDPS Facebook post, the Community Policing Unit is looking for youth who are being kind, safe, and making good choices.
Community Policing Officer Samantha Schmeltz said that the Commendable Kids Program is a program developed by KDPS to provide some positive feedback for kids doing the right thing in the community.
Other officers went onto say the program provides an opportunity for police and youth to form positive relationships in a space that’s a non-enforcement environment.
While on patrol, officers plan to give out awards to those they catch doing something good, along with a sweet treat from Sweetwater’s Donut Mill, Culvers, or Chic-fil-A.
