KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Kalamazoo’s Epic Center announcing on Thursday, May 25 that it has raised $1.95 million toward its $2.2 million goal to renovate the facility.
Center officials say the funds raised will be used to modernize and update the facilities within the Epic Center. Renovations they say will make the facilities more accessible and comfortable for visitors.
The renovation project includes updates or remodels to the dressing rooms, seating in the theatres, kitchen, and box office. Along with those changes, the roof and HVAC system will be replaced, and the building security will be upgraded.
The Epic Center is a multi-use facility that is home to several arts organizations, including the Arts Council of Greater Kalamazoo, the Black Arts and Cultural Center, Crescendo Academy of Music, Fontana Chamber Arts, The Gilmore International Piano Festival, the HUB Tavern + Grill, The Kalamazoo Community Box Office, The Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra, Kalamazoo RESA Young Adult Program, The Stulberg International String Competition, Public Media Network, and Wellspring/Cori Terry and Dancers.
“We are excited to make these improvements to the Epic Center,” said Kristen Chesak, Executive Director of the Arts Council of Greater Kalamazoo. “Not only will it be more comfortable for our visitors, but it will also be more ideal for the arts organizations who collaborate within the facility.”
“We are grateful for the support we have received so far, and we are confident that we will reach our goal,” said Ken Miller, Campaign Chair for the renovation project. “The Epic Center is an important part of the Kalamazoo arts community, and we are committed to ensuring that it remains a world-class destination.”
Judy Jolliffe, Honorary Chair of the campaign, added, “The Epic Center has been a cornerstone of the Kalamazoo arts scene for decades, and these renovations will only make it an even more vibrant and welcoming space.”
Officials say renovation project is expected to be completed in the coming months.
