KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A historic downtown Kalamazoo church is getting some much needed renovations thanks to some state funding.
The Kalamazoo Nonprofit Advocacy Coalition received $250,000 from the state budget for continued renovations of the building on 315 West Michigan Avenue.
According to KNAC Board President Dan Sytsma, the funding will go toward a capital campaign to raise $11 million for the renovation project.
The renovations include replacing the HVAC system, adding an elevator and fire sprinklers, creating co-working spaces on the second and third floors, and updating the performance spaces and lobby, as the building serves as a community hub for local entertainment.
The building currently hosts comedy and improv acts along with other art-focused events in the city.
The building’s former owner, the First Baptist Church, helped formed the Kalamazoo Nonprofit Advocacy Coalition.
