KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Parkview Avenue between Oakland Drive and Whites Road is set to close on Monday, August 14 as work will begin to replace water main beneath the street.
City of Kalamazoo officials say the street will remain closed for the duration of the project, which is scheduled to be completed in late October.
A posted detour will direct drivers around the construction by way of Whites Rd and Oakland Drive. Traffic signals will be adjusted during the project, but drivers should anticipate delays during construction.
City officials go onto say the work will prepare Whites Road for more extensive water main replacement and reconstruction in 2024 eastward to Westnedge Avenue. That project will also see Whites Road undergo a “road diet” and be converted to a three-lane configuration (one lane in each direction with a turn lane) to encourage safe vehicle speeds and improve safety.
Bike lanes, sidewalk improvements, and traffic signal replacements are also planned in 2024, in addition to adding curb bump-outs near Woods Lake Elementary School.
