KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The City of Kalamazoo Department of Public Services says about 100 gallons of sanitary sewer overflowed from a manhole in a back parking lot of 410 West Kilgore Road around 4:00 p.m. Thursday.
Department of Public Services staff removed the blockage at 6:15 p.m. City crews say the wastewater flow did not reach any storm drains or open waters. Normal flow conditions in the sanitary sewer has been restored and the impacted area cleaned up.
The City of Kalamazoo Department of Public Services, in cooperation with the Kalamazoo County Health and Community Services Department is advising all persons that may have experienced contact with the raw sewage to clean and disinfect shoes, clothes, and skin thoroughly.
As required by law, Water Reclamation Plant personnel notified the Michigan Department of Environmental, Great Lakes and Energy (EGLE) at the Kalamazoo District Office and the Kalamazoo County Environmental Health Unit of the spill.
