PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The worst blast of winter weather in over half a decade will close schools again today, including Kalamazoo and Portage public schools and even Western Michigan University for a second straight day.
Portage city councilmember Jihan Young says plan more time on the road if you must go out.
“If you don’t have to go out then just stay in and please be mindful that as we get the buses back on the road that you make sure you leave enough space and give yourself time, accidents are increasing.”
When temperatures get this cold, even road salt doesn’t work.
“Just because you may be able to see the pavement does not mean that the roads are clear,” says Young.
She says drivers should also avoid parking on the street as it just makes plowing that much more difficult for city, county and state crews.
