KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – One person has been diagnosed with a case of active tuberculosis at Kalamazoo Central High School.
The Kalamazoo County Health Department says the person who tested positive is currently isolated and undergoing treatment.
Kalamazoo Public Schools superintendent Dr. Darrin Slade says the district is “taking guidance from the health department and is collaborating on the response” adding they are sending their best wishes for a full and speedy recovery.
Officials have not said if the person who tested positive for TB is a student or a staff member.
The health department is working with Kalamazoo Central to identify anyone who would have spent extended periods of time with the person when they were potentially contagious. Those people will be notified as soon as possible and testing will be held at the school.
Officials say active TB can be spread between people and has symptoms including a cough, weight loss, and night sweats and the person infected will have an abnormal chest x-ray.
