PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Complaints from residents on Quail Street in Portage that a neighbor was terrorizing homeowners on the cul-de-sac, has prompted the city council to enact a new ordinance that will make being a really bad neighbor a misdemeanor.
Residents complained the man was spying on them, confronting them, intimidating and even assaulting them.
City Attorney Catherine Kaufman says currently, Portage Public Safety officers have to seek warrants from the county courts.
The new ordinance will allow them to handle the situations in house.
Kaufman says when the new ordinance takes effect in 15 days, it won’t be retroactive, but any new problems on Quail Street, or anywhere else in the city, will be easier to prosecute.
