LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Two controversial bills that ban transgender girls from playing female sports in school have been approved by the Michigan House.
One bill passed with a strictly party-line vote to ban anyone born male from joining female sports teams.
The other bill passed with a single Democrat joining majority Republicans to amend the Elliott-Larsen Civil Rights Act to say eligibility for K-12 athletes is based on their original birth certificates.
Democratic Floor Leader John Fitzgerald called the passage of the bills dangerous, saying they erode civil rights.
The Michigan Senate has a Democratic majority, and the bills are not likely to be approved there.
