PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM)- Ahead of a $132.4 million November bond issue on the ballot, Portage Public Schools is holding multiple community outreach events in the coming weeks.
School officials say the community is invited to the information nights as well as Listening and Learning sessions with new Superintendent Johnny Edwards.
The 2025 Bond Information Nights are scheduled for 6:00-7:30 p.m. both Monday, September 29 at Haverhill Elementary School, 1720 Haverhill Avenue and Tuesday, October 7 at Central Elementary School, 8422 South Westnedge Avenue.
The Information Nights will include a presentation on the 2025 Bond as well as self-guided tours of the new schools. Community members can also learn more about the bond at portageps.org/2025bond.
Additionally, Superintendent Johnny Edwards is holding two Listening and Learning sessions to hear from the public about a variety of topics related to the District. They will be held Wednesday, October 8, at the Portage Zhang Senior Center, 302 E. Centre Avenue. The sessions are from 1:30-2:30 p.m. and 6:00-7:00 p.m.
If passed, the bond would pay for replacing Amberly Elementary and Angling Road Elementary, renovate Moorsbridge Elementary, replace the Portage Community Education Center (Community High School & Early Childhood – Curious Kids), finish modernizing technology for current and future learning, and replace outdated buses.
The election is Tuesday, November 4, 2025.
