CASS COUNTY, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – An animal cruelty case is under investigation by the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.
The Animal Control Division received two dogs on September 30 that were found as strays in the 10000 block of Pioneer Street in Marcellus Township.
The sheriff’s office says the dogs were emaciated and dehydrated, and one appeared to be blind.
Bergman Veterinary Medical Center examined the dogs and said they did not have parasites or any other factors that would cause their condition other than not being cared for.
The owner of the dogs was identified and charges are pending.
Both dogs have gained weight and are healthy enough to receive vaccines, and the blind dog will have surgery to remove her eyes.
The investigation is still ongoing at this time.
