PARIS (Reuters) – France’s nuclear regulator extended a temporary waiver allowing five EDF power stations to continue discharging hot water into rivers so that electricity production is not disrupted during the country’s heatwave, despite the impact this measure could have on the environment.
The ASN watchdog said the waiver had been extended to Sept 11, adding that the move will entail a “strengthened monitoring programme” of the water environment, especially of the fish life.
