PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The City of Portage has joined the City of Kalamazoo and Kalamazoo County in declaring a local state of emergency following
this week’s ice storm.
City Manager Pat McGinnis says the expenses associated with the city’s emergency response during the event and the subsequent cleanup efforts are expected to
be significant and were not programmed in the annual budget.
By formalizing the emergency declaration, the city can seek assistance from the State of Michigan to offset the cost of managing the emergency and cleanup.
