KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Kalamazoo County Board has authorized talks with the owner of a building across the street from their downtown headquarters, and during a meeting held Wednesday night, August 2, added a second property to provide space for a new downtown parking ramp.
The properties in question include a Cell Phone store on Kalamazoo Avenue, and 440 N. Church Street, right behind it.
Plans to acquire that second property were announced after a closed session at the Wednesday evening meeting.
County Administrator Kevin Catlin says money had been set aside for a parking structure, but the final cost is still to be determined.
Negotiations with the owners will be conducted by the City Attorney and administration, and are subject to final board approval, if an agreement can be reached.
This is plan-b. Plan A had been to build a parking ramp at Kalamazoo and Westnedge but they sold that property to the Developers of a proposed Event Center earlier this spring.
