COMSTOCK TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A suspect was bitten by a police dog Saturday night after leading deputies on a chase in a stolen car in metro Kalamazoo before running away.
The Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office says just before 7:00 p.m. Saturday they received a report that a stolen car was at the Belle Tire on Gull Road near North Sprinkle Road in Comstock Township. When deputies arrived, they found the car and a man outside of it.
Deputies say the man refused to obey their commands and instead got into the stolen car and took off. They say he led them on a chase for about 10 minutes before stopping the car at Burrell Avenue near Florence Street in Kalamazoo, where deputies say he ran away.
Deputies say after the man disobeyed a command to stop, they released the dog. It soon caught and bit the suspect. Deputies say the man kept resisting, but they managed to get him into handcuffs.
He was treated at the hospital and then jailed on several felony charges. His name was not released pending arraignment.
