KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The City of Kalamazoo is reporting that Mayor David Anderson has tested positive for COVID-19.
Anderson said he was experiencing mild symptoms and will be self-isolating until he is cleared by medical professionals to exit quarantine and return to work. The city says Mayor Anderson informed the City Commission and City Manager and is following all necessary protocols for quarantine while recuperating at home.
Anderson says this should serve as a reminder to everyone in the community that COVID-19 is real, and we must all do our part to keep our community safe.
“It’s critical we reduce our risk by following guidance from the CDC, and the Kalamazoo County Health Department which includes practicing social distancing, avoiding large gatherings, and wearing masks when in public. I also encourage residents be vaccinated as soon as the vaccine is available.” – Mayor Anderson
As of January, 11, the Kalamazoo County Health & Community Services Department has reported more than 13,000 cases and more than 270 COVID-19 related deaths in Kalamazoo County.
“Continued health and safety are a top priority for the City of Kalamazoo and I encourage every resident to continue to take precautions by wearing masks, washing their hands often and practicing social distancing to help prevent the spread of this serious illness. Mayor Anderson is in our thoughts and prayers and we are all wishing him a speedy recovery.” – Jim Ritsema, Kalamazoo City Manager.
