KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Kalamazoo Public Schools trustees are expected to decide whether to keep El Sol Elementary on Vine Street downtown or build a new building on 12 acres of open land in Kalamazoo Township.
The school is the home of the district’s immersive Spanish language program and superintendent Dr. Darrin Slade says the new location gives them room to expand.
The only opponents to the plan are residents who live nearby, who don’t want the current location turned into a parking lot.
Dr. Slade says the recommendation he makes to the board will be in the best interest of the students.
The board meets Thursday at 7 p.m. at the KPS Central Administration building on Howard Street.
