DETROIT, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A mainstay of the Detroit Tigers’s rotation in the 1950’s and 1960’s has died at the age of 90.
Paul Foytack pitched in parts of ten seasons with Detroit and threw sixteen complete games in 1956 and 1958. He had a 500 record with the Tigers, going 81 and 81 with a 4-14 ERA.
He’s best known for giving up a home run in 1960 to Mickey Mantle over the right field roof in the old Briggs Stadium that was measured at a little more than 643 feet, marking the longest home run ever measured in Major League Baseball history.
