KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The new Kalamazoo County courthouse opened a year and a half ago, and some tweaks have been required during the five-story building’s shakedown period.
The biggest fix came this spring when it was determined that the wrong sized duct work had been aligned with two of the HVAC units, requiring a $400,000 repair.
County Administrator Kevin Catlin says Tower Pinkster agreed to cover the cost of the error after discussions.
“Really this issue was discovered during the quality control process, and the resolution was handled collaboratively with Tower Pinkster and their insurance carrier.”
He says the matter was settled in June.
“Our community partners mean everything to us, we work with a lot of folks and vendors.”
The county has other big construction projects lined up, including the construction of a new parking ramp for the courthouse, and the remodeling or replacement of their Administration Building.
They have also discussed replacing the hazardous waste drop-off facility at Lake and Lamont streets. In fact, commissioners are scheduled to receive a full report on the feasibility of replacing that facility and expanding its operations at their Tuesday afternoon session.
