KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – More than 70 resident physicians are coming to Kalamazoo and Battle Creek this summer at the WMU Homer Stryker School of Medicine.
There were 53,373 applicants for the program, which was 842 more than last year.
The 75 resident physicians and six fellows includes four residents who are participating in MIDOCs, which is a state of Michigan program expanding residency training positions in select specialties. They will go on to practice in Michigan’s underserved areas in exchange for having their student loans repaid.
They will start their training in July.
The group of resident physicians include seven students from the WMU Homer Stryker School of Medicine’s MD Class of 2026 and were part of a class that saw 98% of students enter a residency program in specialties ranging from Family Medicine and General Surgery to Internal Medicine and Pediatrics.
