LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Consumers Energy has received the approval from the Michigan Public Service Commission to raise rates by over $226-million.
The increase would result in a $6.46 higher bill for someone who uses 500 kilowatt-hours a month and will go into effect May 1st.
Consumers had requested an increase of around $326-million.
Attorney General Dana Nessel says the increase requests have become “the never-ending cycle of rate hikes passed on by the utility” and says lawmakers need to overhaul the entire system.
