BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A motorcyclist is dead aftet crashing into anothet vehicle in Battle Creek Friday afternoon.
The Battle Creek Police Department says the fatal crash happened on West Columbia Avenue near South LaVista Boulevard.
Shortly before 2;00 p.m. officers responded to a report of a serious injury crash. Police say their preliminary investigation indicates a motorcycle was traveling westbound on West Columbia Avenue at a high rate of speed while passing other vehicles. At the same time, a passenger vehicle traveling eastbound was attempting to make a left turn into Katie’s Plaza.
The motorcycle collided with the passenger vehicle while it was turning.
The motorcyclist, a 20-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel. The driver of the passenger vehicle was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.
Personnel from the Battle Creek Fire Department and LifeCare Ambulance also responded to the scene.
The BCPD Accident Investigation Team was called to investigate. West Columbia Avenue was closed in both directions for several hours while the scene was processed.
The investigation remains ongoing.
The victim’s name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
