KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The fourth generation of a Kalamazoo family will reopen their famous pumpkin farm on October 1st.
The farm on M-43 in Kalamazoo near the Kalamazoo County and Van Buren County border was purchased by Myron Rhodes in 1885, passing it to his son Ralph Rhodes and then to Gene Rhodes, who planted their first pumpkins in 1957.
Gene died in 2024 and his nephew, Steele Evans and wife Sadie, bought the farm last fall and have named it Evans Acres Family Farm.
The pumpkins and squash are still there on over 50 acres, and they have added a herd of goats and a coop of chickens.
