KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – It doesn’t kick in for another three months, but the Kalamazoo County board is getting ready to set their spending plan for next year.
They will hold a public hearing on the $353-million spending plan Tuesday evening and set a final vote on the budget for their next meeting in two weeks.
The county will have substantially less to spend next year, partly because of the end of funding from the American Rescue Plan, approved by Congress to cover losses from the COVID-19 pandemic.
They are also seeing other loses in revenue, but for the first time will also see an increase from the newly approved childcare millage.
Interim County Administrator Terrell Cole says the proposed budget, with updates, can be viewed at the county website.
“So as we go through the adjustments and recommendations those will be published so the public can see that work along the way.”
It’s available under the “Transparency” heading on the county website landing page at www.kalcounty.gov.
A hardcopy is available for viewing at the county clerk’s office.
The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. at the County Administration Building on Kalamazoo Avenue.
