KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Michigan is expanding its PreK for All program to include home-based child care providers for the first time through a new pilot initiative, with Kalamazoo and surrounding counties included.
State officials say the program will broaden access to no-cost, high-quality prekindergarten for families and creating new opportunities for small child care businesses across the state.
Among the organizations selected to administer the pilot program is Southwest Child Care Resource and Referral, which serves Allegan, Barry, Berrien, Calhoun, Cass, Kalamazoo, St. Joseph, and Van Buren counties
PreK for All provides free, high-quality early learning to Michigan four-year-olds, helping families save on child care costs while preparing children for kindergarten and beyond. State officials say this pilot builds on that effort by expanding options for families and strengthening Michigan’s mixed-delivery system.
“Participating in PreK for All gives me the tools and support to provide an even stronger early learning experience for the children in my care,” said Tina Glover, a home-based family child care provider at Adorable Bebes Day Care in Kalamazoo County. “It’s a great opportunity to show that home-based providers can deliver high-quality early education in settings families know and trust.”
