KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Another major clean-up effort for local waterways will be taking place this Saturday.
The Rotary Club of Kalamazoo, in partnership with local community organizations, is inviting neighbors, families, and outdoor enthusiasts for the Third Annual Kalamazoo River Cleanup. It will take place this Saturday, June 20 from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m., spanning various parks, waterways, and trails across Kalamazoo, Comstock, and Parchment.
Organizers say the initiative focuses on removing debris and trash from the water, banks, and surrounding trails. By restoring natural habitats and improving water quality, the project aims to enhance local environments for recreational use and preserve natural resources for future generations.
For general volunteers, orientation begins at 10:00 a.m. at designated worksites selected during registration. For watercraft volunteers in kayaks or canoes, orientation begins early at 8:30 a.m., with a scheduled launch at 9:00 a.m.
Following the cleanup, all volunteers and community members are invited to the Afterparty Celebration from noon to 2 p.m. at Mayors Riverfront Park. The celebration will feature live music, food, and fun activities for all ages.
