KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Two people were arrested Thursday following a vehicle pursuit involving a stolen vehicle that ended in a crash with a Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety
patrol vehicle.
At around 11:20 a.m. KDPS officers located a reported stolen vehicle in the area of Douglas Avenue. They say when officers attempted to make contact, the vehicle fled and a pursuit was initiated.
The pursuit traveled outside Kalamazoo city limits before returning to the city. The vehicle eventually entered the Vine neighborhood, where it collided head-on with a KDPS patrol vehicle on Oak Street.
Following the crash, two people fled from the vehicle on foot. Officers established a perimeter and conducted a search of the surrounding area. A 20-year-old and a 23-year-old were located and taken into custody. They were taken to a local hospital for evaluation, before being lodged at the Kalamazoo County Jail on charges and outstanding warrants.
The KDPS officer involved in the crash was also transported to a local hospital for evaluation and was later released. An uninvolved vehicle was also struck during the incident.
No additional injuries were reported.
