KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – September is a bulk trash pickup month in the City of Kalamazoo, giving residents a way to dispose of large household items that are too big for their regular trash cart.
City officials say your pickup day depends on your address. More information is available at kalamazoocity.org/BulkTrash, or call 311 to find your pickup day.
Curbside bulk trash pickup is not available downtown or at multifamily buildings with five or more units.
What’s Accepted:
Items too large for your weekly trash cart
Mattresses and old or damaged furniture
Large household items
Small amounts of carpet or fencing, cut into sections no larger than 4′ × 4′
Up to 7.5 cubic yards per pickup, or about a pickup truck load
What’s Not Accepted
Regular household trash or recyclables
Hazardous waste, electronics, or EPS foam
Yard waste or landscaping materials
Construction materials, glass, or concrete
Loose piles of junk
Tires and auto parts
Paint cans or liquids
Items in black garbage bags or other opaque containers
Put bulk trash out no earlier than the day before your scheduled pickup. Place materials in the curb lawn or at the edge of the street without blocking the street, sidewalk, or bike lane, with everything is ready by 6:00 a.m. on your pickup day.
