Sep 29 (Field Level Media) – The Boston Red Sox reinstated left-hander Garrett Crochet from the 60-day injured list after recovering from left shoulder inflammation as the team gets set to face the rival New York Yankees on Tuesday in an American League wild- card series.
Crochet, 27, made just six starts this season and has not pitched in a major league game since April 25 against the Baltimore Orioles. He was 3-3 with a 6.30 ERA to open the first month of the season.
A two-time All-Star who finished second in American League Cy Young Award voting last season, Crochet did not make a minor league rehab appearance this season but has thrown bullpen sessions, as well as live batting practice, as part of his recovery.
To make room on the 40-man roster, right-hander Justin Slaten was transferred to the 60-day injured list with a right elbow injury.
Crochet is expected to be used out of the bullpen by the Red Sox in the current series, although he has not pitched in relief since 2023 when he made 13 appearances for the Chicago White Sox in his return from Tommy John surgery.
In six major league seasons, Crochet is 30-27 with a 3.17 ERA in 142 appearances (70 starts) for the White Sox (2020-24) and Red Sox.
