LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Michigan Court of Appeals has overturned the three convictions of Joseph Morrison for his roles in the plot to kidnap Governor Gretchen Whitmer in 2020.
Morrison was found guilty in 2022 of providing material support for terrorist acts, gang membership, and felony firearm and was sentenced to between four and 20-years in prison.
Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel says her office will appeal the ruling, calling it “completely and irredeemably nonsensical, outrageous, and irresponsible.”
The Court of Appeals ruling came after Morrison’s defense attorneys argued kidnapping by its legal definition is not a violent felony.
